Hello Members,

The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) has launched a public consultation on proposed changes to the 2025 National Model Codes, including several updates relevant to the window and door industry.

Key proposed changes include:

  • Updated standards references: AAMA 501 series (501, 501.1, 501.2, 501.4, 501.5 and 501.6), CAN/CGSB 12.1 and 12.8, CSA A440S1, NFRC 100 and 200, and CAN/ULC 104 and 106.

  • Tier 3 energy efficiency: Introduction of a prescriptive Tier 3 compliance pathway for Part 9 buildings, including updated window and door performance requirements based on climate zone.

  • Minimum energy performance: Establishing Tier 1 as the minimum national model-code energy performance level.

These changes are currently proposals and have not yet been adopted into the National Model Codes.

The public consultation closes December 21, 2026.

Warm regards,
