Fenestration Canada with the assistance of the Field Air/Water Penetration Testing Task Group have produced two documents which are available below:

This document provides guidance for diagnosing, managing, and documenting air/water penetration testing and failures for fenestration products.

It emphasizes the importance of:

• Clearly defining failure criteria in contracts.

• Distinguishing product failures from non-product-related failures.

• Following best practices during testing, including attending tests, monitoring conditions, and documenting results.

• Ensuring installation qualifications and site safety during testing.

• Using precise contract language to define roles, responsibilities, and processes for addressing failures.

By following these recommendations, interested parties can effectively address testing challenges, reduce disputes, and improve project outcomes.

Field Testing Preparation

This document provides an overview guide to site testing preparation for fenestration products. It outlines:

• The roles and responsibilities of relevant interested parties.

• Steps for conducting effective testing.

• Preparation procedures for manufacturers, general contractors (GCs), and testers.

• Handling test failures and retests. By following these recommendations, relevant interested parties can ensure thorough preparation, minimize testing disruptions, and streamline the resolution of failures.
