Imperial U-factors to Remain in Fenestration Technical Specification
Steve Hopwood, Natural Resources Canada - March 30, 2015
Dear ENERGY STAR Participant:
NRCan wishes to announce that the U-factors in imperial units will remain in the specification criteria tables to determine zone qualification as an acceptable alternative to the U-factors in metric units. The elimination of the imperial U-factors was to be effective January 1, 2016 but has now been cancelled.
Maintaining both the metric and imperial values reduces administrative burden to many Participants and is in line with the Government's mandate of Canada/US cooperation and alignment. The original decision to eliminate the U-factors in imperial units was in response to concern that certain products may not meet Canadian codes or regulations even though they meet the ENERGY STAR criteria for that region.
Manufacturers are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that their products meet all applicable municipal and provincial / territorial building energy codes and regulations in Canada (which are published in metric only) and that ENERGY STAR certification is not necessarily a determiner of code or regulatory compliance.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
