Skip MacLean, Fenestration Canada President - January 19, 2015
A new year is upon us. We can now reflect on the past 12 months...

Earlier this year I reported on Fenestration Canada’s activities with the perspective of letting you know what activities the association was planning for 2014. Well I am happy to say that not only did this hard working team of board and committee members deliver what was asked of them, but they exceeded all expectations and demands. Many new challenges face our industry in 2015 and I am confident we have the right people in place to direct and guide us to a positive result.

Fenestration Canada has published a NAFS labelling guideline document for use and reference by the Fenestration industry.  The guidelines will be of great interest to manufacturers, builders, specifiers, and building code officials dealing with the compliance of fenestration products to the provincial building codes referencing NAFS-08 and the Canadian Supplement to NAFS-08.  Please click here for your copy of the guidelines.

Fenestration Canada is pleased to announce the release of our web based North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS) performance calculator tool for the Canadian window and door industry. The new tool calculates the NAFS minimum performance grade (PG), minimum positive and negative design pressure (DP), minimum water penetration resistance test pressure and minimum Canadian air infiltration and exfiltration requirement to comply with any provincial building code referencing NAFS-08 and A440S1-09. The tool calculates these values for 679 locations across Canada, at heights from 10 to 100 metres, for both open and rough terrain.  We anticipate that this tool will become the one stop source for determining fenestration performance levels for code compliance across Canada. It is now live and available to the fenestration industry, builders, specifiers and code officials at www.fenestrationcanada.ca.

The Fenestration Canada Annual Meeting and Conference held at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba saw just under 200 participants register for meetings, social activities and various program events. It was one of the most successful offerings ever!

The association wishes to acknowledge the tremendous support received from sponsors and Fenestration Manitoba for helping make this event what it was. We wish to particularly underscore the tireless contribution of Al Dueck (Duxton Windows), who persevered in promoting the conference and effectively dispelling any misperceptions anyone had about Winnipeg as a site for the conference.
